Financial Support

Financial assistance is available in several ways from Civil Defence payments to government grants to tax relief. See below for information and links on what support is available.

• MPI - Cyclone Gabrielle Recovery - this webpage contains the latest information about MPI support in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle including information and access to grants, financial support available to farmers, growers, whenua Māori owners and rural communities to support the immediate response and recovery efforts.
• Work & Income – resource page to assist with urgent accommodation, emergency food and bedding, loss of income and other support payments and services.
• Civil Defence Payments - if you've been affected by the cyclone, you may be able to get a Civil Defence Payment. You don't have to be on a benefit or be a NZ citizen to qualify for a Civil Defence payment be in a Click the link or call 0800 400 100.
• IRD Cyclone Gabrielle Support – support for tax relief, income equalisation, and relief on penalties and interest.

Animal Wellfare

Your livestock may also have been affected by the Cyclone. It's also important to support their welfare.

• MPI: Animals during emergencies details how to prepare to ensure the welfare of your animals during a disaster, such as an earthquake or flood.
• Federated Farmers provides a summary of the regional planning requirements for stock burial and offal pits.
• NAIT log-in - If you had to move stock during flooding update your NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing scheme) records for biosecurity and disease management support.
